Resident Evil Veronica Remake Announced: Release Date, Platforms and Everything We Know

Capcom opened Summer Game Fest 2026 with the announcement fans have been waiting 26 years for. Resident Evil Veronica, an official remake of the 2000 Dreamcast classic Resident Evil Code Veronica, was revealed with a cinematic trailer on June 5, 2026. It is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam in 2027. Claire Redfield is back. The wait is over.

Resident Evil Veronica is an officially announced remake of Resident Evil Code Veronica, developed by Capcom using the RE Engine. It follows Claire Redfield across Rockfort Island and features Albert Wesker as a key antagonist. It launches in 2027.

The trailer begins on the rainy streets of Paris. A mysterious figure in a red jacket enters an apartment building. She finds cookies on a table. There is a knock at the door. She opens it and is immediately attacked.

The trailer cuts across dark corridors, outdoor areas on a remote island, and the unmistakable look of an Umbrella research facility. A quick cut to Claire Redfield's face confirms the lead character. Near the end, viewers spotted Alfred Ashford and what appeared to be Umbrella operative HUNK. The title card appeared: Resident Evil Veronica. Then the 2027 release window and platform logos. No gameplay footage was shown.

Code Veronica has one of the most unusual histories in the franchise. It is the game that should have been Resident Evil 3. Capcom released the RE2 Remake in 2019, RE3 in 2020, and RE4 in 2023 to wide acclaim. Code Veronica came up every single time as the next obvious target.

The original launched on the Sega Dreamcast on February 3, 2000. An enhanced Code Veronica X arrived on PS2 in 2001. The last official release was an HD remaster on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2011. The game has not been playable on any current platform. That gap alone makes the remake significant.

Claire Redfield has been searching for her older brother Chris after they were separated in the chaos of Raccoon City. Her search leads her to a Paris Umbrella facility, where she is captured and transferred to Rockfort Island, a remote prison island under the control of the Ashford family. Alfred Ashford and his twin sister Alexia drive the island's events, obsessed with the T-Veronica virus.

When a t-virus outbreak hits, Claire fights her way through the chaos. The story eventually pulls in Chris Redfield. Albert Wesker is on Rockfort Island pursuing his own agenda, specifically a sample of the T-Veronica virus. His scenes are some of the most important character moments in his arc. Steve Burnside, a young prisoner Claire meets, serves as an emotional throughline.

Every recent Resident Evil project has been built on Capcom's proprietary RE Engine. The Rockfort Island prison, the Antarctic research base, the Ashford mansion sections are environments with real visual character that will benefit from the engine's atmospheric detail. The 2027 window is consistent with the cadence of recent remakes.
